Double Square Gallery is pleased to announce the upcoming joint exhibition “Entangled Dynamics,” on view from December 07, 2024, through January 11, 2025. This exhibition brings together the compelling works of five artists and collectives—Chee Wai-Loong, WHYIXD, Yu Shih-Fu, Yao Chung-Han, and Keng Chieh-Sheng—showcasing a range of kinetic sculptures, light installations, and sound art that probe the complex aesthetics and materiality of "dynamics" through space, matter, and time.

The exhibition title, Entangled Dynamics, draws on quantum mechanics' concept of particle interaction to highlight the interconnected, mutable nature of "dynamics." Through this lens, the works explore the intricate relationships of coexistence, entanglement, and uncertainty within the material world, offering a poetic investigation into energy, space, and human perception. Audiences are invited to reflect on their relationships with the external world and to consider how collaboration and resonance can foster balance and understanding in a constantly evolving environment.

Each artist brings a unique perspective to the theme. Keng Chieh-Sheng engages deeply with wood, transforming blocks into thin slices, shifting from solid to soft, individual to collective, and revealing the microscopic changes in matter as a metaphor for instability in contemporary society. WHYIXD blends inorganic materials with organic forms, capturing a sense of temporal flow and material dissolution, drawing attention to the aesthetics of solidity and softness over time. Yao Chung-Han explores electromagnetic principles through a carefully structured array of 96 electromagnets, creating a soundscape that oscillates between order and chaos, amplifying subtle narratives within material properties. Chee Wai-Loong’s kinetic installations reflect on Malaysian Chinese heritage, weaving in rural architectural elements with symbols of shadow puppetry and dragon dance, powered by movement to evoke themes of identity and ambiguity. Yu Shih-Fu utilizes digital techniques to capture the flight patterns of birds, symbolizing freedom and resilience in motion, inspiring viewers to face challenges with renewed hope.

In “Entangled Dynamics,” the convergence of mechanical sculptures, light, and sound installations fosters fresh interpretations of art by harmonizing diverse media and cultural motifs. The exhibition exemplifies contemporary art’s ability to merge technology and tradition, sparking new possibilities through unexpected combinations. The featured works not only illustrate a nuanced understanding of dynamics and materiality but also invite audiences to reflect on "movement" as it manifests across dimensions, enhancing our understanding of matter, energy, and the spaces in which they interact.
