Florian Claar
Florian Claar (b. 1968) was born in Germany, he studied sculpture and stage design at the State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart, and currently resides in Japan and Germany. Claar launched a career in new media, installation art and film art after he went to Tokyo in 1994. Starting in 1998 he taught media art and sculpture at the Musashino Art University, the Tama Art University in Tokyo, and the California State University in Long Beach, California. In 1996, he received the Kajima Sculpture Gold Award; in 2005, he was selected by Tadao Ando for the Benesse Sculpture Award. His permanent works include the Tokyo Midtown-Project, the Kanazawa Contemporary Art Museum, Nagoya Mode Gakuen and many other locations in Japan, Taiwan, Korea and China. His exhibition record includes the Yokohama Triennale in 2001, the Aomori Museum of Art, the Kobe Biennale 2007, "Horizon 2017" in Sancy, France, as well as many solo exhibitions, the most recent at Nizayama Forest Art Museum in Toyama in 2018.
