Venue: Double Square Gallery 2F
Continuing the curatorial concept of Seize the Life: Contemporary Writing and Painting, from the perspective of the intuitiveness and instantaneity in painting and writing, Double Square Gallery will explore the transformation and transition of how contemporary artists in Taiwan have integrated Eastern and Western arts. The latest exhibition, Double Square Select 2, will especially showcase the artworks of Taiwanese artists, including Chu Teh-I, Hsu YungHsu, Lin Chuan-Chu, Isa Ho, Wu Tung-Lung, Chen Wan-Jen, and those of the Japanese artist, Hirakawa Youki. Using different techniques, these artists have displayed the unbridled freedom and characteristic reservedness of Eastern painting. Whether realistic or abstract, the artworks have reflected the inner landscape of the artists. From painting, sculpture, video, to installation, the artists have used various media and forms to interpret the characters and symbols while embedding the element of the body in the writing process. The sculptures and installations that resemble writing strokes document and demonstrate the condition of the body at the particular moment of creation whereas the shades and layers of colors seem to reach the infinity in the ebb and flow of time. Double Square Gallery sincerely invites you to join us and appreciate the excellence as the East meets the West and the hidden meanings in writing and painting!
