Art Stage Singapore 2017 will take place from 12 to 15 of January 2017. As the largest art fair in Southeast Asia, Art Stage attempts to link contemporary art in Asia, providing a cohesive stage for the development of art. This edition of Art Stage features over 120 galleries from 27 countries and regions, including Taiwan, USA, Moscow, Germany, France, Switzerland, China, Istanbul, Italy, Japan, Korea, Thailand, India, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and many other cities. In 2017 for the first time, Art Stage invited six large collections to exhibit their extensive collections, providing the audience a slice of contemporary art in Asia. Double Square Gallery will present a solo exhibition of Taiwanese artist Wu Tung-Lung. The exhibition will contain new works which have never been exhibited before, providing a brand new experience to the audience.
Wu Tung-Lung’s solo exhibition in Art Stage is also the first time Wu present new works outside of Taiwan since his solo exhibition in 2015. The exhibition in Art Stage 2017 features 8 pieces of works from his most recognized “Symbol” and “Color Lines” series. Wu is known for his abstract paintings with ambiguous geometric forms and rational composition on top of the monochrome background which implies an endless extension of the neutral space. He works with extraordinary precision and demand during the creation process, from his refined form and lines demonstrates a high level of spiritual awareness without the use of any narrative. The paintings contain hand-polished texture, in a clean, subtle surface, at the same time conveying an emotionally charged expression. He developed his unique creative style by applying various artistic elements such as linearity, color blocks, volumes, and spaces. By virtue of mechanical back-and-forth brushstrokes, he created unique textures, dramatic tensions and a sense of volume on the seemingly light surfaces. Each perfect and rational composition of the artist’s paintings brims surprisingly with his vigorous pursuit of inner sustenance and connections with the external world.
Wu Tung-Lung, born 1976 in Taipei, graduated in 2004 from the National Institute of Tainan Art Institute of Plastic Arts, has previously been invited to various residency programs in New York, Paris, Scotland and other places. His works have been exhibited in Taipei Fine Arts Museum, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts and other institutions. His main creative style is abstract, pure and rational minimalist paintings. Wu’s works are created from elegant layers of colors forming a powerful visual tension that is at the same time low-intensity; exploring image space, symbol psychology and color aesthetics. He is one of the few current generation of artists engaged in abstract paintings in Taiwan.
