Su Hui-Yu's "Super Taboo" to participate in the 41st Norwegian Short Film Festival
Adapted from historical texts, the narrative in the two-channel video artwork Super Taboo came from a pornographic publication, which was previously known as “a small book” (xiaoben), with the same title. Renowned actor Chin Shih-Chieh guides the viewers into a surreal erotic scene by playing the role of an urban white-collar worker who mutters the plots of the “small book” in his hands.

Su Hui-Yu is fascinated by connections among images, media, history, and daily life. In his videos, he explores both mass media’s impact on viewers, and the projection of viewers’ thoughts and desires onto media. Themes in his work include the aestheticization of violence, trance-like sleepless states, the interplay between reality and fantasy, and eroticization of the female body in films. He draws from his experiences with various media, cultures, and the body, as well as national mechanisms, terrorism, and even the self versus the other.
